Artistic Oath

Artistic Statement:

Art is perhaps among the greatest opportunities we have to grow on a day to day basis. Therefore, it is my goal to learn and grow from every piece of art that I partake in– whether as a creator or a consumer. Amongst my work on this website, you will see samples of my acting, my dancing, my choreography, my stage combat, and my special effects makeup. Through my art, I hope to not only learn more about what it deals with, but to also bring greater awareness of these issues to a wider audience.
As I go through the processes of self-discovery with each work, my greatest goal is to leave an impression on the audience that will not only have given them an enjoyable experience, but will cause them to think. To think in greater depth about what was being discussed, who was being portrayed, why the events unfolded as they did, how what happened applies to the real world, and what (if anything) should change or must be changed because of it.
I also acknowledge, of course, that I am still growing as an artist and as a person. Though I don’t want to make mistakes, I welcome opportunities to learn and grow from them. It is also a fact that art can never be a completely solitary experience. Through my art, I hope to connect with the people and the world around me, to learn as much from them as I can, and to acknowledge, accept, and take on the corrections given to me while staying true to myself.
Below, you’ll find my Artistic Oath. It is composed of the various pledges I have made to myself in regards to how I will work while in this field. Through these, I hope to help create a thriving, healthy community in the performance world and continue to make art for as many years as I possibly can.
Love to you all,
Rose
1.
I swear to seek out stories that tell the viewpoints of people in oppressed/minority positions.

2.
I believe it is my responsibility to take each character I play completely seriously as I explore & research how I will represent them.

3.
Never fail to be kind.

4.
I promise to always be respectful of the people, stories, and art around me, and to keep in confidence the secrets that are revealed to me.

5.
It is necessary to take care of myself, physically AND mentally.

6.
I swear to always place the safety of the people involved in a production as a top priority, and never to let my discomfort win over speaking up against an unsafe situation.

7.
It is necessary to make art accessible to as many people as possible.

8.
I will always support my friends and co-workers in their careers and never allow jealousy over a job or role to influence my relationship with them.

9.
There will never be a point when I cease learning.

10.
I promise to rely on my friends and family more, and not try to shoulder all of my burdens by myself.
